Recordo Restaurante, located within 10 minutes' walk, is a good dining option. A private kitchen was ok for us. Great base for a weekend in Penalva do Castelo! We go there often, and do recommend it to anyone.

The hotel is an old, beautiful family house. It's full of history and the guest can certainly breathe the history while walking throughthe very well restored and maintained facilities. The gardens are beautiful and very romantic. The service is good and attentious. Rooms and whole hotel is very clean and confortatble.
Only minus is the location, since there's not much around, so it's a good option if you're looking for a getaway...

Casa da Insua is a beautiful hotel and the price is quite reasonable. We booked for one night and ended up staying for three nights.

Beautiful buildings and location.
The booking took a long time as there was only one person at reception and they had to leave the room each time to photocopy an id card and to show guests to their rooms. Could have a second person when expecting a large rush and a photocopying machine nearby. When we arrived at the restaurant we stood for some time while being ignored by the waiters (wasn't sure whether to take a seat or wait for them to seat us) and then when we took a seat were ignored for a long time by the waiters despite waving them down etc. We were late, but if they couldn't serve us they needed to come and tell us this, rather than simply ignoring us.
